Aaliyah makes art, works towards social change, grows vegetables and loves to feed people. She is happiest when she can do all of these concurrently, which is not always good for her sanity. She was born in Kolkata, India, and lives in Seattle with her husband, twins and two cats. She is deeply committed to social change work and actively involved in the struggle to end violence against women, as well as in the immigrant rights movement. Aaliyah received an MFA in painting from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1990. She is currently a member of CORE Gallery, Seattle and her 2012 exhibitions include Erasing Borders Exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art of the Diaspora 2012, The Sketchbook Project, and a solo show at Core Gallery, Seattle in July.
